Our Sidewalk Garden

The Alameda Maker Farm has made a big push to beautify and utilize our space outside the fence to engage community in gardening. One of our renters, Eva Stevens, who has a ten year background in maintaining school gardens, started by putting in one 25 foot long raised bed with lots of flowers and vegetables. After the overwhelming support and encouragement from people on walks and many neighbors and admirers becoming regular watering and planting volunteers, we added three more! Many people from the assisted living facility have become very fond of the rich life in front of the Alameda Maker Farm. We even put out a donation box by request from some of the people living in the houseboat community so they could harvest vegetables, herbs, and flowers from the bountiful hundred feet of Garden beds that we maintain.

Another Alameda Makerfarm member, Jonathan DeLong lead an effort to plant over 30 large aloe plants that span over 200 feet of the unmaintained ground between the sidewalk and the street.
